M551 Sheridan

Rushed into service during the Vietnam War, the M551 Sheridan was fully designed with the intention of being deployed from the air. In Vietnam, American soldiers had mixed feelings about it. It wasn’t nearly as well-armed or protected as an M48 Patton, but it also didn’t struggle with the terrain nearly as much, to be fair. Talking about the M551 and M48 Patton in Vietnam will be a later post after the D-Day series.
So remember the part about it being deployed from the air? Well, this only happened once in Panama, in 1989. But I think, considering the situation, how rapidly US forces were deployed to the country, their numerical and firepower advantages compared to the Panamanians, and the ease of the conflict compared to Vietnam, the M551 finally had a positive reputation.
