CM-11 Brave Tiger
The US has always been in an odd spot when it comes to Taiwan, and, admittedly, depending on who you ask, the relationship leaves a lot to be desired.
Back in the 1980s, Normalising relations (heh, at the time anyway) between the US and China meant that selling and lending higher-grade weapons to Taiwan was a big no-no.
This problem with Washington meant nothing for private companies, though, so General Dynamics teamed up with the Republic of China Army to put together a Tank that helps the country modernise its forces.
Extra emphasis on the “put together” part. Because. This thing is an M48 turret, slapped onto an M60 Chassis, and it’s the fire control system from the M1 Abrams.
Now hold on, I know what you’re thinking, this still sounds outdated, especially for a tank that entered service in 1990. But there are some things to consider. The Braver Tiger could fire on the move, has great night-time optics, and I can’t ever envision a realistic scenario where the PLA could get its heavier tanks like the ZTZ-99(painting of that on the way btw) into Taiwan. From what I know, and I could be wrong here, Chinese marines use the ZTQ 15 and Type 59D. Two vehicles, the Brave Tiger won’t have much of an issue taking out.
It’s kind of a similar story to Japan’s Type 74. Outdated off the conveyor belt, but perfectly suited for the battle it would actually have had to fight.
